How I start a project.

Starting is the hardest part of any project. I had a professor in college that said the most challenging thing we do every day is getting out of bed, and I believe that. You can say that starting a project is how we get out of bed. Depending on what project you are about to dive into; a new Logo design, new painting, commission work, or a new found hobby, I will go over my crucial and fundamental process for starting every project. Here we go!

First: You have your idea, maybe not, maybe you just have a topic or a theme, that’s okay! When you have an idea of some sort, get a piece of paper and write it down. I recommend writing it down versus typing it out on an online doc or notes on your smart device because it becomes a tangible item. Write down everything that comes into your mind. I recommend writing down the things you may need, ideas pertaining to it, and anything related to it that comes to mind. This can look like a spiderweb. Your main idea/topic/theme in the center and branches(lines) connecting your thoughts to that center. This will give you a clear vision of what will possibly be produced with your final project.

After you have everything written down, take a break. The best thing I do and encourage is to step away from the paper for about ten to fifteen minutes. This will allow you to refresh your mind from any project starting anxiety, stress and creative blocks.

Once you have enjoyed your well deserved break, go through your web and find anything elements that you feel that need to be crossed out. This step is only if you feel is necessary pertaining to the center of your web. After this is done, gather all the elements you will need from your web and have them available, whether this is a color scheme, materials, or articles. Gathering the majority of all of the tools you will need will make your process of your project run smoothly. Lastly, once everything is in front of you, your process will flow naturally! Use your tools and materials and remember to step away for a few to refresh! And this is how I start my process.

*I will update this according to any new processes I learn through my own project starting journey.
